An Introduction

We of the Pipe Creek Civil War Round Table ask you to journey with us through a land and time not too far distant. Here in Carroll County, Maryland, we have not lost our connection to the past. The hills still shimmer in the morning sun. Fields of corn still rustle in the breeze. The roads still lead up from Virginia, on to Gettysburg, over the mountains to Antietam. It is only a short ride through time to see the roads clogged with troops, to hear the clatter of Confederate horse on Westminster streets, to witness all the spectacle and tragedy of a country which tore itself apart on our doorstep not too long ago. We remember, and we bid you remember with us.

Join us here in this still quiet corner of the Maryland countryside and learn of our Civil War heritage. Try to feel the pain of a border state, rent asunder by politics, driven to the madness of internecine conflict. Ride with us as we explore the past and try to take its lessons on into the future. We welcome you in the present, to Carroll County. Now, we invite you to come back and meet our forefathers.
